Hell raising percussion, microtonal electronics and melismatic vocals, Noum is a witch folk and alternative rock project based in London UK which has been said to be 'disassembling the hearts and minds of grown women and men’.
Lead by Noémie Ducimetière (Idrisi Ensemble, Gentle Mystics) Noum consists of international touring artists such as Vahakn Matossian (Sonnen, Gentle Mystics), Mike Frank Panayiotis (Arrows of Love), mezzo soprano Alexandra Pouta, and more.
Idrisi was a Muslim cartographer educated in Cordoba. By invitation of Norman King Roger II, he travelled to Sicily and created a revolutionary world map. With his rigour, practice of ancient Ptolemean principles and modern techniques, intertwining points of views, and determination to represent both the West and East, he created a uniquely modern depiction of our world.
Idrisi Ensemble believes in the inter-connectedness of our lands, people and musical practices, and is working towards a new performance practice of troubadour music and trobairitz poetry, using principles of tuning and ornamentation found in Old Roman, Byzantine, and Mediterranean repertoires.
