Idrîsî Ensemble
Idrisi was a Muslim cartographer educated in Cordoba. By invitation of Norman King Roger II, he travelled to Sicily and created a revolutionary world map. With his rigour, practice of ancient Ptolemean principles and modern techniques, intertwining points of views, and determination to represent both the West and East, he created a uniquely modern depiction of our world.
Idrisi Ensemble believes in the inter-connectedness of our lands, people and musical practices, and is working towards a new performance practice of troubadour music and trobairitz poetry, using principles of tuning and ornamentation found in Old Roman, Byzantine, and Mediterranean repertoires.
